Cruise Packages From UAE: Routes, Prices & Booking Tips
Every season, more families and couples ask me where to start with a cruise. The cruise line’s website shows a cabin, a route and a price, and that looks simple enough.
Cruise packages from the UAE are rarely that simple once you add the parts around the ship. You have to choose a departure city, check who needs a visa, and make the flights and hotel night fit the boarding window.
This guide covers those parts, because that is where I see plans come unstuck. It is written for residents of Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE, and for visitors who want to join a sailing here.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi Cruise Packages: Departure Ports and Routes
Most UAE departures leave from Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and the two cities are not interchangeable. Pick the one that suits your travel day, not just the one with the nicer itinerary.
Terminal, Transfer and Timing for Each Departure City
Dubai and Abu Dhabi sailings usually leave from different terminals, so “a UAE departure” is not one place. For Abu Dhabi readers, the pier, the drive or transfer time and the route from the airport should decide which city you sail from, because a cheaper fare in Dubai can lose its advantage once you add a long road transfer on embarkation day.
Take a family living in Abu Dhabi with luggage, children and a boarding window to meet. Leaving from their own city may mean a calm morning. Leaving from Dubai may still be right if the itinerary is better, but then the transfer needs to be planned, not improvised.
Road times between the emirates change with traffic, so build in a buffer instead of trusting a map estimate.
If you are flying in from abroad, work out which airport is closer to your pier before you compare fares.
Short Arabian Gulf Loops and Longer Sailings
There are two main route shapes. The first is the short Arabian Gulf round trip, usually a few nights, calling at places such as Sir Bani Yas Island, Muscat and Doha. One search listing, for instance, describes a Dubai round trip calling at Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Doha and Sir Bani Yas Island, so a single sailing can mix UAE stops with foreign ports, and only the foreign ports bring their own entry rules.
The second shape is a longer sailing that goes beyond the Gulf. These take more days, cover more countries and cost more to organise, since the flights home and the visa checks multiply.
Both shapes shift by season. Gulf sailings tend to cluster in the cooler months, and the ports and lengths on offer can change from one season to the next.
A short loop is a good first cruise, but it will not give you the long stretches at sea or the range of countries that a longer sailing does.
Which Cruise Lines Sail from Dubai and Abu Dhabi
MSC and Costa are the two lines that appear in UAE-departure listings. If you have a favourite, tell me and I will check what is actually on offer for your dates.
A cruise line can pause its Arabian Gulf itineraries for a season, and that happens often enough that I would never rely on an older listing. Dates, ports and ships you saw last year, or on an old blog post, may not exist now.
So treat every schedule as unconfirmed until it is checked for your own booking, and do not carry dates over from one season to the next. That one habit prevents more disappointment than any other tip in this guide.
Visa and Entry Rules for Cruises from the UAE
Visas are the first check on a cruise booking, not an afterthought. I raise them in the first conversation, because a missing visa cannot be fixed on the quayside.
UAE Entry for Visitors Boarding in Dubai or Abu Dhabi
A visitor joining a Dubai or Abu Dhabi departure needs valid UAE entry before boarding, and for many passports that means a UAE visit visa. If you live here, your residence papers must be current on the day you sail.
Here is the point many residents miss: a UAE residence visa does not automatically open other countries. It lets you live in the UAE. It does not decide whether Oman or Qatar will let you step ashore.
If you are inviting relatives from abroad to sail with you, start with UAE visit visa support for visitors before you pay for anything else.
Foreign Port Calls and Passport Checks
Each foreign stop has its own entry rule, and the rule depends on the passport you hold. Muscat and Doha are foreign ports even though they sit a short sail from the UAE, while Sir Bani Yas Island is a UAE stop.
A short shore visit does not always skip the visa. Two passengers in the same cabin can face different requirements because they carry different passports, so each traveller needs checking separately.
Please do not assume that a port you visited on one passport works the same way on another. Send me every traveller’s nationality, and we check each stop one by one before you book.
Bundling Flights and Hotels into Your Cruise Holiday
A cruise fare covers the ship. Everything that gets you to the ship, and home again, is a separate decision, and one agent handling all of it makes the timing much easier to get right.
What a UAE Cruise Package Usually Includes
Packages differ, so read the inclusions line by line. In general, this is how it splits.
Usually bundled:
- Your cabin for the sailing
- Onboard basics such as main meals and standard entertainment
- Optional extras, if you ask for them: airport or pier transfers, flights and hotel nights
Usually paid separately:
- Shore excursions
- Drinks
- Service charges
- Visas
- Travel insurance
Happy Journey Travel & Tours LLC is an Abu Dhabi agency that arranges cruises alongside flights, hotels, UAE visit visas, airport transfers and group travel, so one team can line up the sailing, the flight and the entry paperwork. That saves you from chasing four different providers.
Hotel Nights and Flight Timing around Embarkation
Ships board in a set window and they do not wait. If your flight lands at midday and boarding closes in the afternoon, you have very little room for a delayed bag or a slow immigration queue.
For that reason I often suggest arriving the day before. A hotel night near the port gives you a rested start, and you can book hotel rooms before or after your sailing together with the cruise so the check-out and transfer times match.
Flights deserve the same attention on the way home, since disembarkation happens at a fixed time too. If you are flying out of Abu Dhabi, timing your flights from Abu Dhabi shows when fares tend to be best, but never choose a fare that leaves you too little time at either end of the sailing.
Cruise Prices and Deals in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Four things move a UAE cruise price: the cabin category, the departure month, the length of the sailing and what you add onboard. An inside cabin in a quiet month and a balcony cabin in peak season can sit far apart on the same ship.
When you look for cruise deals in Abu Dhabi, judge each one by what it includes, not by the headline figure. A low fare that leaves out transfers, a hotel night and your visas can cost more in the end than a higher fare that bundles them.
I will not promise you the lowest price on the market. I will promise a clear, like-for-like comparison, and I would rather lose a booking than hide a cost.
MSC Cruise Prices from Dubai: What the Headline Fare Leaves Out
Dubai cruise listings in the search results quote prices as cruise only, per person, double occupancy. That wording matters. The figure covers one person’s share of a cabin occupied by two, and it leaves out flights, transfers, visas and onboard extras.
So when you look up an MSC cruise Dubai price, treat it as the starting line. Before you compare MSC with Costa or any other offer, add the rest:
- Flights to the UAE, or home from the final port
- Transfers on both ends
- Visas for each traveller, including current UAE visit visa costs if you are bringing guests
- Excursions, drinks, service charges and insurance
Quotes are comparable only when they share the same basis. A single traveller, a family of four and a group of eight each change the sums, so a headline figure seen online may not match what your party pays.
A Booking Timeline for UAE Cruise Packages
Lead times vary by season and by nationality, so I cannot give you a fixed number of days for any step. What I can give you is the order that works.
- Fix your dates and season. Gulf sailings follow the cooler months, so your travel window narrows the choice straight away.
- Check the UAE-departure schedule for 2026-27. Confirm which lines are actually sailing on your dates, because a line can pause Gulf itineraries for a season.
- Sort visas for every traveller. That covers UAE entry and each foreign port on the route.
- Book flights and hotel nights. Fit them around the boarding window and the disembarkation time.
- Get the terms in writing. That means cabin category, cancellation conditions and payment terms.
Starting with dates and the schedule keeps you from buying flights for a sailing that was never confirmed.
Checks to Finish before You Pay a Deposit
A deposit is the moment a plan becomes a commitment, so slow down here. Before paying, make sure you have these in writing:
- The exact cabin category and what the fare includes
- The cancellation terms, and what happens if a visa is refused
- The payment schedule, including whether a deposit can be split across UAE bank credit cards
Many of our readers like to spread a large payment over more than one card. Ask about it before the deposit, not after, and get the answer in writing.
Why Book Your UAE Cruise Holiday through a Local Agent
I started Happy Journey because I believed travellers deserve honest advice from someone they can call. Booking a cruise yourself online is perfectly possible, and some people enjoy it. But a local agent handles the awkward parts: choosing the sailing, checking visas, arranging flights and transfers, and agreeing payment terms.
We offer personal support from enquiry through to return, which matters most when a sailing date, a visa and an arrival time all have to fit together. If you are travelling with children, our family holiday packages from Abu Dhabi show how we plan around their needs.
If you would like to explore Happy Journey’s cruise holidays, please send me your preferred dates, your party size and each traveller’s nationality. We will check the UAE-departure sailings, the visa rules and a like-for-like price, so you know where you stand before you commit to anything.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa to join a cruise from Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
You need valid UAE entry before boarding. Visitors usually need a UAE visit visa, and residents need current residence papers. Each foreign port on the route, such as Muscat or Doha, has its own entry rule based on your passport.
Does my UAE residence visa cover the ports the ship visits?
No. A UAE residence visa lets you live in the UAE, but it does not automatically open other countries. Check every foreign stop against the passport each traveller holds.
Why is the MSC cruise price from Dubai different from what I end up paying?
Dubai listings are typically quoted as cruise only, per person, based on two people sharing a cabin. Flights, transfers, visas, excursions, drinks, service charges and insurance are added on top. Compare offers only once they share the same basis.
Which cruise lines sail from the UAE?
MSC and Costa appear in UAE-departure listings. A line can pause Arabian Gulf itineraries for a season, so confirm the sailing for your dates instead of relying on an older schedule.
Can I split a cruise deposit across UAE bank credit cards?
Some bookings allow it and some do not, so ask before you pay. Get the payment terms, including any card split, confirmed in writing along with the cabin and cancellation terms.
